🎸 Beginner Blues Course Update... and 2-String Shuffle Riffs!

Published 3 months ago • 1 min read

Hey there, friends! It's been a crazy busy last couple weeks as I've muscled through my Blues Fundamentals course — and I have a nice update for you today.

First up, a free lesson — giving you a preview of what's in this course!

The lesson above focuses on 2-string shuffle riffs, which are incredibly fun and quite easy to get started with. My video introduces the concept from the ground up, showing you the basics and several ways to extend the concept.

There's also a tons of bonus content should you want to go deeper with this technique — including some zoomed exercises (with tabs), a 7-page print-friendly PDF, and more.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg – as I have several other new lessons added as well! Including some updates (audio samples, practice tracks, etc) added to my earlier preview videos from a few weeks back. Check out the full course here »

Still to Come...

I'm going to take a break from the blues content and get back to the usually scheduled content (songs, fun riffs, etc) — but before long I want to return to the blues and add a few final lessons introducing you to blues lead guitar. So stay tuned for this – and if you have any specific questions on this topic, let me know!

Thanks all!

I'll send a monthly roundup email separately, but wanted to wish everyone a happy March as we plow ahead into 2024. As always, I encourage you to reply to this email with any songs, licks, riffs, or questions you'd love to see turn into lessons. While I can't turn every request into a full lesson, I'm always happy to point you in the right direction if I'm able.

Have a great Friday night, everyone!

✌️ David

Hey there, Reader! New lesson today teaching Wichita Lineman, the all-time classic from 1968, written by Jimmy Webb & recorded by Glen Campbell. I've gotten so many requests for this one over the years – and I'm quite happy to finally have learned it and made a lesson. This song is originally recorded in the Key of F, using some rather unconventional chord shapes — but I teach a capo 5th fret version that uses the Key of C chord family. This makes things quite a bit easier to play, while...

Hey there, friends! In today’s video I’d like to share a collection of 13 songs I’ve taught previously – all of which utilize droning strings as part of the main riff. This is not something you’ll find in all songs — but when used well, it can really elevate a riff to a whole new level. Here's a link to the new video: What is a "Droning" String? The term droning strings simply refers to one string, usually open (un-fretted), which is played constantly. While this is happening, a melodic riff...
